I spent the summer of 2020 as a backend intern 👨‍💻 with Mrkt365.com. For those of you who haven’t heard about Mrkt365.com, it’s an AI platform that lets you scan your digital presence and optimize your digital marketing efforts. The platform is an ever-growing market place for everyone that lets you hire an expert or an agency on their platform to enable your business to grow. It also has vendor management and rating system that helps the right client meet the right expert to get the job done effectively. It is a subsidiary of HighBreed Corporation, having offices at Canada, India, Israel and China.

Application Process

As the 3rd year of our college starts, so does the hustle😞 to find a good internship begins. The internship is highly important for an undergraduate student to gain corporate-level experience. I started looking for internships over LinkedIn, Angel.co, Internshala and on some of the company’s career pages. I even connected with various technical recruiters over LinkedIn to consider my application for an internship role.

Applying to various organization and sitting for an interview regardless of the results has given me so much of experience on a variety of questions that are being asked- ranging from technical to interpersonal skills. As a result, I have slowly improved upon myself after every consecutive interview on how to handle different questions in more diversified ways. This indeed helped me to get 3 paid internship offers during the summer of 2020 even in the times of COVID-19.

For the first round, Mrkt365.com gave me the assignment to design a web application using Django and Python which can search apps on Playstore, AppStore and also has the ability to find out the meta-tags from the given website. I revisited some of the concepts again by creating the polls app given by the Django documentation as a starting example. Finally, I created the required website in 2 days using Django, Python, Ajax, CSS, HTML and hosted it to the Heroku (PAAS) server to get qualify for the next round.

The second round was an online technical interview, where I was made to share my screen and do hands-on coding based on the problem statement given by the recruiter. The questions were mainly from trees, linked-lists, stack, queue and some of the advance concepts of python like generator, lambda functions and list comprehension. Scenario-based questions were also asked regarding designing a Rest-API’s and based on my performance I was promoted for the final round of interview.

The final interview was purely based on my interpersonal skills and they tested me on some of the challenging questions.

Finally, I was able to clear all rounds and got an internship opportunity🎉 for a period of 3 months to work as a backend developer at Mrkt365.com.

Internship experience and Work culture at Mrkt365.com

The internship started in the first week of May 2020. The interns were given an introductory session where we were told about the entire system and the initial few days were spent on setting up the required repositories and libraries to the Kali-Linux environment. Once we were set with the required configurations, we were assigned with the respective task(s) for the sprint at YouTrack agile board. We had a stand-up meeting scheduled every day during the evening, where each of us including the entire team shared the update on their daily progress and the work that we will be doing tomorrow. This included the Technical, UI/UX, Sales & Marketing team. This helped us to understand the various roles within the organization in a much better & interactive way. The good 🦸🏻‍♂️ thing about MRKT365.com is that we never felt like interns and the working culture was very welcoming, as all of us were involved in planning and discussions. The company has also given us ample amount of time to prepare for our online semester exams that got re-scheduled in June due to COVID.

My learnings during the Internship

I was assigned with the task on their tracker that was designed using JAVA FX. The initial task was to fix some UI related bugs in the tracker. I learnt a few things about JAVA FX quickly and get started with the system. Eventually, I picked up the pace and helped in resolving some bugs 🐛 and creating API for the tracker. This has solved some of the vendor-related tracker issues. I have created documentation for the migration of tracker’s backend from Django v1 to v2. This helped me to experience and identify all the test-cases in design perspectives. I was also involved in solving the UI flow and google login issues in their main platform. Apart from technical experience, I also learnt about scrum meetings, agile development and how to communicate with the peers in the team effectively.

Astounding summer come to an end ⌛

All good things come to end, so did this internship 😃. I learnt a lot and made a lot of new professional connections. I would like to thank everyone at MRKT365.com for their continuous support and guidance.

I would like to thank my mentor Tanmay Gupte, Sumeet Basak for letting me this wonderful opportunity and Joy Fernandez for providing a good onboarding experience.

P.S — it’s me :) when my laptop freezes while running more than two servers at the same time during the work.

ThankYou 🤗
